2022 – 2023 Off Season Updates Part 1
We have been hard at working making updates and balancing many different aspects of the game. We are excited to share all of them with you but we can’t share some of them just yet. In the mean time, we wanted to share the new and improved Ability list with you!
Feedback
First before we look at the changes, we want to give a huge shout out to all of you who took time out to help give us feedback on our game. Your opinions really matter to us and we hope you can see many of your thoughts reflected in the changes we are presenting today. We also want to give a special shout out to Aaron Briggs, who’s feedback stood out to us in this review and even heavily influenced some of the new abilities you will see today.
Changes Overview
Here are a few of the changes you will find in this update.
Ability Types
We are doing away with Ability types as they are currently. The way they worked before this update, we had the same ability listed multiple times. the only difference being how it was used. For example, the Ability Deafen could be a physical, magical, or mental ability and was on the list three times to reflect that. This is not the case anymore, now you will only find each ability listed once, and it is up to the player to role-play how they use an ability.
Resistance Types
We had a lot of feedback on the way resistances worked, and we could not agree more. We knew there was a clunky-ness to the way resistances worked in combat and did not like how it interupt gameplay in a negative way. To correct this we chose to focus on “How does the ability affect me?” as a general design principal. We felt this would not only help simplify them, but also help reduce breaking immersion.
We chose to start with three resistances, Mental, Physical, and Ailment. To us these were clear and distinct and easy to identify. Going through the list however, we found that one more category may be needed that covers abilities that affect you in ways that are either ambiguous or unclear. For this reason we ended up settling on four resistances.

Each ability now has a place in its description where you can check which resistance can be used against it, incase its not clear to you. Each one can only be resisted by one ability, and some abilities cannot be resisted at all, that are predominantly crafting abilities or ones that do not target another player. In the case of crafting recipes, we felt that it would not be fun for a player to work on crafting an item just to have the making of it countered in some way. This does not mean that the effect itself can not be resisted. The effects can be countered just like the ability they mimic.

How do these changes affect me?
Over the next few weeks we will be taking down the current ability list and replacing it with the new one. The new abilities will be fully integrated into the system before we have our first event in March. If you have an ability on your character sheet that has had any changes to it, you will see a message that says you are able to choose a different ability to replace it with. If that ability had upgrades on it, you will have the choice to refund those points, reducing your upgrade count for that character, or apply those upgrades to the new ability. - Diplomacy – Caster thoroughly convinces target character that the caster has no intention of physical harm toward the target for 1 minute or target character is harmed by caster. - Pickpocket – If the caster can sneak up on another character, they can tap a pouch on the target person and name a type of item (i.e. copper, silver, rare plant materials). If the target has that item in that pouch, they must hand it over to the caster.
