They escort me down the corridor of the vast De Jardin complex. I’ve been here many times. Have given many reports. Been given many assignments. Taken many different names.
This current report reflects what I learned at a tiny town called, Meadowmere. This nothing of a place is taking in refugees from our lands, preparing to defend against our attacks, and attempting to gather allies to rise against the De Jardin.
I found myself, once again, among the people. Saw many of the same faces from my incursion into Haven months ago before we released horde into their midst. I was, once again, floored by their naïveté. I was met with… kindness. Then when I was up against actual suspicion and even imprisoned, I still managed to escape due to bleeding hearted individuals.
Kindness… people ready to help me…
My escorts open the door to the powerful heads of houses I’m about to report to. Each with their champion guards and their advisors. Tables with maps and markings along the perimeter. The activity stills as I’m led to the center dais to stand before them all and answer their questions.
“Were you successful in infiltrating that measly little eyesore??”
“I was, my lords and ladies.”
“Tell us what activities they are up to that could cause us issues.”
        “… uh…”
        Kindness.
        “SPEAK!”
“Yes, forgive me… I acted as a wounded refugee to enter Meadowmere. I gained… entrance easily and while there I, uh, gathered the following intelligence… “
        Kindness.
“NETHER! Why are you wasting our time with your stammering?! What preparations has that pissant place accomplished so we know how to handle them!?!”
        “None, my lords and ladies.”
        “NONE??”
“None. They are overrun with refugees, have zero warriors, no concept of magic, no scouts, no help from anyone. They are more likely to implode from within due to lack of resources than they are to attack any of our flanks or supply lines. They are no threat to your might. I don’t believe they are worthy of anymore of your time or attention. They are nothing.”
        Kindness.
“Whahaha I TOLD each of you we needn’t bother with such a lowly place. Lady Gillette was obviously making the lands out to be much more impressive to overshadow her own failures. Nether, report back to Helion for your next assignment.”
As I start to leave the room I see a signal being given to one of the many champions, a ruthless killer named Q. I’m led back into the corridor and begin my exit, I get a few yards down when the door reopens and Q begins to follow. Their eyes burrowing into me.
What consequences am I about to face for lying to my masters?
