I write here now, recalling recent events that have unfurled in my life and that of those around me. The road to the lands of the House De Jardin were not the most eventful, though of note and perhaps foreboding to oncoming events were the progressively less maintained paths and trails leading up to our destination. I wonder now about those we encountered, if they were trained agents of the De Jardin or simply citizens lulled into believing the lies of their leaders or simply uncaring of the harm they caused others. The stories we heard of the beast folk suffering, of the persecution of those that did not conform or meet the appearance of propriety laid out by the powers that be… it was disturbing to say the least. I fear the Duchy Jernigan will soon know the horrors of war, and the Halcyon Sovereignty itself could be thrown into civil disarray….
One does not travel for weeks with those they already considered friends and allies and not feel at least somewhat closer. It wounds me to think of Kalen, how we were routed by the enemy and forced to flee at his expense. It was not easy for me being the one to keep going while Simon doubled back, but that was part of my newfound responsibility. The community, so long as I lead it, will always take precedent in my life and I hope my actions reflect this.
I was proud to see the town in good spirits and good order upon my return, I knew I was right to put my trust in Alyssaria, Kelora, and Poet to keep our community strong. I’m glad Willow has joined us, her knowledge of fauna proved invaluable shortly after my return. Apparently, whilst I filled in a hole dug by Johnny(Jonny?) in the center of town, the townsfolk themselves handled a horrendous beast that was the source of dangerous eggs found throughout the day. Someone said it was akin to a giant rabbit, but I admit that seems preposterous at face value….
I have much to ruminate upon with these fell tidings. I think it would be wise for us to invest much into cultivation and farming with the potential loss of access to the grain yields of Merdarioux, home of the De Jardin and the Duchy Jernigan’s main grain supplier. I will not see my people starve for this potential civil fallout from the hubris of the greedy and tyrannical. Likewise I think it would be well worth the time and effort to construct defenses for our town to give everyone a sense of safety, and in truth hopefully an actual security from the dangers we all may face in the coming days. Beyond that, we have the Summit to prepare for as well which could very well be a shifting point in the realm. Haven will be hosting it to my knowledge, thankfully not a great distance from our homes and hopefully a short and safe journey for us all.
