“Verrin I told you that it just wouldn’t work out between us.” Raine said as he took a seat at the table
“Raine do you know why I dislike you and the military so much? Why I find you lacking in your command and want to see you demoted?” Verrin said as he rolled the shot glasses back and forth on the table
CLINK*
“Dislike me?? I thought you wanted to take me to dinner?”
“No, You are suppose to be better. Better than me, better than the consortium, and a lot better than the criminals and bandits.”
“Then if you think we need to be better then join the military and make us better.”
CLINK*
“I have other things to take care of before I could even entertain the idea of that. Anyways, I asked you here to let you know I will no longer be attempting to sway others to have you removed from command or express my negative opinions of the military. But, I have one thing to ask of you…well two things.”
CLINK*
“Sure, ask it”
“Do better. Greenmeadow had one guardsman, he was an honorable man. A man that everyone knew they could trust and rely on. You and those under your command are a far cry from those standards that I was raised to look for in a guardsmen, so all I can ask is for you to be better, to do better.”
“They’re young but they’re learning and helping…”
CLINK*
“NO! YOU and your men. You need to lead by example! You were forced to do your job because a simple farmer lectured one of your men, who then came to you, to do something about Grimm assaulting Larkin’s friends. Be better, Do better. If not for your own honor, be better for the people of Meadowmere.”
“I was not in my right mind for a while and I know thats no excuse, but you are correct. I will do everything I can for those under my command, as well as myself, to do better for all the people of meadowmere. I never imagined I’d be in a place of authority within the guard when I joined last year. It was naive of me, I know. I’ve been too focused on being our peoples friend instead of protector. I’ll try to be better and I hope you will help me ”
CLINK*
“Verrin you said there was two things you asked of me.”
“Don’t get in my way”
CLINK*
“What do you mean don’t get in your way? And why are you playing with those shot glasses?”
CLINK*
Verrin stood calmly, putting the shot glasses in his pocket. “They belong to Grimm. I plan on giving them back to him and I don’t want anyone to get in my way.”
“Get in your way? Honey, I’ll provide the opening.”
Silence hanging between the two before Verrin giving a slight bow to Raine, Verrin turns to leave and says over his shoulder.
“Have a good evening Sergeant .”
