As I watched poet walk away, on her way to the front lines to be a healer, time stopped for a moment. I pondered the coming storm. How it had already affected my wonderful new family. In slow motion, I watched as my friends, who normally were not fighters, practicing with Raine and the consortium to hone their skills. I watched as Jack and others prepared healing potions and recipes, knowing we would need them. I watched as refugees ran from the border of fires, escaping the evil of the De Jardin. I watched as Poet walked away…what is to come? In a flash, time returned. I ran after Poet, my heart breaking, telling her I would go with her. She told me no, it’s okay. I think she was trying to tell me I had other work to do. Would I ever see Poet again? How can I explain to Kaylora and Tannis that she couldn’t wait for them to return to say goodbye? With tears in my eyes, I watched as she walked away.
