As the conflict rages on around us, Meadowmere continues to see refugees and travelers regularly. We had a contingent of healers make their way from lands far away to volunteer for giving aid in the war effort. They were traveling to the front, which continues to inch closer to our town each day. It won’t be long before we begin hearing the sounds of battle nearby.
Unfortunately, some of that conflict has already reached us. While I was out completing my survey and scouting the latest troop positions near our area, a force from House Rousseau came escorting their champion. He spoke with some of the citizens and demanded the release of what he claimed were, prisoners from the land of De Jardin. He was not aware that these individuals have fled here of their own choice. Apparently, the citizens were a bit jumpy and attacked this diplomatic envoy. They were told he would return in 30 days to take control of the area.
This was the absolute worst thing that could’ve happened. I had hoped, thanks to some of the goodwill built with the Champion of Rousseau at the Summit, we would’ve been able to convince them to drop their support for De Jardin. I’m not sure if this is possible now.
As if this wasn’t bad enough, we got word that Arianna has been trapped at Hexhaven along with several children and staff. The school is under siege by De Jardin and Renaux forces. With the incoming Rousseau attack the military will not be able to help. There have been rumors of a citizen-led operation to head move behind enemy lines deep into De Jardin territory and rescue the hostages and possibly break the siege there. I can only hope that they are successful as I am not able to go along to assist. I will have to trust my friends to complete this mission.
The task at hand now is to shore up the defenses for the incoming assault while still holding out just enough to get the De Jardin main force to come here and fall for the snare we have placed. May Mighty Ione give us guile, strength, and wits to win this battle and this war!
