In chains… The Dey-Jardan unit put me in shackles and led me along in a chain gang with a large number of portal folk. They said that we where headed to some sort of camp where other portal folk are being held.

By a staggering coincidence the person behind me in the chain was a lizard folk by the name of Gideon. I recognized the tattoos across his body as being from the swamps just outside of Port Mire back in Mercia. Back in Atlis. Back home… Though we where of drastically different upbringings, cultures and species it was nice to reminisce of home with someone.

When we got to the camp we where stripped of our belongings and valuables and processed into the yard. There where hundreds of other portal folk there. Had Bruzog been here he could probably have roused the others into a riot to get us out, but it’s just me here. I couldn’t find any sign of Meat and nobody recognized his description. I can only hope he didn’t get tied up in all this.

Countless alarms and cannons went off throughout the day and I distinctly remember details in the officer’s notes… They are trying to draw out any portal folk that are horde… For their front lines. Gideon and I stuck together for the most part. Our bunks where situated close to one another so we could sleep in shifts should the guards not collect any new horde quick enough. We had also made a lot of progress towards escaping. We had the guard’s shifts memorized, a route planned and even a few shivs made in case we ran into trouble…

We HAD progress… A few weeks in Gideon kept ranting about how hungry he was. At first I chocked it up to Lizard folk dieting, but… One night I entered our bunk to find him eating one of the other prisoners in the corner… He turned towards me with shiv in hand. I was caught defenceless. We had stashed all the shivs in the same spot and kept nothing on us. He had that look in his eye… That all to familiar look of horde. (Dodge) He lunged towards me and I managed to sidestep his shiv, but didn’t see his follow-up. A quick slash to his side grazed my chest as he passed. As I backed away I kept trying to remember some teaching… Something Hanu had taught me a long time ago… I hadn’t had to use it since I always had a weapon on me, but I needed it now. I had to remember… (Foresight) It came to me in a quick flash of realization. Push, pull. Gideon went for another lunge, but I remembered the technique. As he moved forward I caught his arm with both hands. Pulled the shiv away with one arm and pushed on Gideon’s throat with the other. Putting all of my weight into the push. Gideon fell backwards and I now had the shiv in my hand. I warned him to stay back, but he wouldn’t listen “I’m sorry. I HAVE TO EAT!” I knew what had to be done. I ended it as quickly and painlessly as I could. Once Gideon breathed his last I laid him down on one of the bunks. With all the bloodshed I knew it wouldn’t be long before the guards came around and discovered she shivs.

      I had to escape tonight…
