Hands were shook and hugs were given as many of us loaded up what was left to our horses or carts. It’s always good to see familiar faces. This journey to Haven has proven to be bittersweet for some and a blessing for others. Tannas looks over the crowd while lost in the thoughts of the past weekend.
Marcus has been retrieved at the cost of four others’ lives. Strangers to us but loved ones to others. To what end this will have, I do not know. It is found out he is high born and in debt up to his ears.
Aikenn has left the Consortium to be a Tribblemancer and merchant. He has become akin to the wee beasts and feels his path lays with them and their upbringing instead of a sword for hire. I do not fault him for his choice and he knows he’ll always have a home with us when he needs it.
Drandor has always had a nose for finding lost chests and traps. He could easily make a living on it if he needed to. He has survived, yet again, a final battle without a scratch or even dirt on his clothes. Is he even showing up to these encounters?
Menry is getting better at the sword. I feel he is what the future of the Consortium may be. His goals seem to align with my own for the time. The goal isn’t to horde gold, but to make sure others are taken care of in our service as we grow.
Mu’kan and Captain D have joined our ranks. It seems only fitting they see what kind of life we live in the beginning stages of their career. Kind of a baptism by fire, so to speak. Both are formidable and I have high hopes for them.
As always, one foe is downed and another kind of quarrel arises. Though I’m not sure as to how we fit into this one as sell-swords, work will be found. Bruzog has become a voice for us all as an ambassador. I can only hope it works in his favor. The political arena can sometimes be far worse than any field of battle.
It’s only a thought, but I fear we haven’t seen the last of Tulley Eye or his lot. With one that can weld so much power, there is always a way out for them. There’s always an angle. I worry for as much trouble there was to pass, more is sure to follow.
Poet had gone to Tannas to call in a debt the morning we prepared to head back. Poet had saved Tannas when he, and the Consortium, were broke and without medical aid. It turned the tables on how we managed funds and aid internally. Her action made us better. More efficient.
She had shown Tannas a picture in her book of a place he knew not of, and asked him to take her there. Without hesitation, he said he would. Next a plan would have to be formed and a passage made.
Everyone was tired, some were broken. Most of us stayed together for the long trek back to Nora’s Respite. As we got closer, some broke off to head home and others rode toward the Consortium Hall. There was always work to be done and for some that’s all they had.
Tannas thought of his messenger bird, Dagoth, and his need to send that aged, mangy bird to Raine. Hopefully he’s not too far gone for help. We’ll see.
