“Marcus, I know you bear a great weight on your heart but let this not sink to your core. To know defeat and survive is to learn and be prepared for future adversity. Everyone who joins the guard knows the risks they’re taking, you as well. And failure is one of them. I know it’s bitter taste all too well, Meadowmere was lost under my rule and I still feel shame for it. But our people have not turned their back on me, nor will they turn away from you. Respect is fickle, it can be earned and lost with ease, or with great cost. In time, they will see that you tried as best you could and that you did it for them.”
“Perhaps you overestimate my capacity for charm or underestimate my willingness to aggress, but I do not begrudge you for taking up arms to defend our people. You acted as best you could under the circumstances and I can ask no more than that. It is unfortunate that the temple was laid waste to, but what is done is done. The burden of leadership is mine to bear, and I will take that weight from your shoulders soon, but know that I have never bore it alone. I have relied on and sought council with many of our friends and allies, yourself amongst them. Whatever consequences lie ahead, we will face them together”
Bruzog ruminated, his nib hovering over the unfinished page. He worried for his friend, and the toll such destruction can take on the mind and spirit. Bruzog had done… terrible things in his past, justified as necessities but immoral nonetheless, he would give much to see his friend remain free from such things.
“I have sought out water for easing Raine’s suffering, so fear not on that front(and other supplies besides). I will return with all due haste, seek refuge where you can, not simply on the road ahead but also in your mind. Whatever you must do to carry on, seize it without regret or hesitation.”
“Luck in battle, and safe travels in between”
The letter ended with words scrawled in his native Orcish(presumably his signature) and the red warg skull emblem of Clan Shatter-spine.
