While I was on patrol, a spy entered Meadowmere disguised as a refugee. He gained information about our war efforts but thankfully Tannis and Immend were suspicious and ended up getting the spy locked up… for a few moments at least. Some De Jardin soldiers soon arrived and somehow the spy got out of the jail in the confusion and all of them escaped. I think maybe Dalia and Burzog were involved from my reports.
After that, us townies got to work! Many of us started studying at the school to improve ourselves. Some crafted, some gathered, some trained; I’m really proud of how many are stepping up to prepare for the worst and help each other as well.
We then saw something completely new to me, a giant gelatinous cube… yeah… I’m still reeling from that encounter but one thing I learned is it is ok to walk away, talk to others, and gain a new perspective.
The scariest part of the day then came next: a group of warriors of the House Roussea arrived on our doorsteps exclaiming we have 30 days to surrender. My friend and battle buddy Menry attacked without caution and instigated a duel between him and one of the warriors. He fought bravely but it was late in the day after he had nearly exhausted himself. Even with my intervention of healing him during his one on one, he fell. I couldn’t get him back to his feet either. He was gone from our plane and something broke inside me. I am not ready to see my friends fall in battle. I’m not capable of such a loss. My waking corpse friend even tried to pry me from my grief with such lovely words of support. If the hand of fate hadn’t interfered and returned Menry to us some time after, I would still be at the spot where he fell in a daze…
I find myself slipping in my duty as a military member. I care too much for helping my friends and town and am too afraid of anyone getting hurt or lost to focus on protocol or to make wise decisions. I was even swindled by a merchant who sold me our own missing horse and wagon. And the scythe still speaks to me, hungering. I keep trying to do good deeds and help others to quiet the voice. I bought impressive goods from Lumarius, gave cheese to Cheese Man, have worked on finding Aria for Gladius, and I even wrote a letter to my dear far away friend, Hanu, to get his and maybe Lao Mae’s aide in contacting Burzog’s family. I hope it’s enough. But what am I going to do if someone gets seriously hurt in front of me again?
