Whelp, it’s been an interesting 4 months. That’s how long I’ve been under “house arrest” while a formal investigation of allegations against me was underway. In the Capital I went into the custody of the military, where I stayed in their local barracks and could only leave the grounds if given permission and with an escort.
I was questioned over and over again by a representative from House Velasquez for actions that occurred in the town of Gandra. I told my truth of discovering the mutilated body of a brigand we took in custody. How the body was covered in threatening materials against the community of Meadowmere and how I, severely dehydrated and in a weakened and vulnerable state, panicked and ate the body. I gave detailed and a first person account of the actions surrounding the destruction of the temple there as well.
During the inquisition, I faced threats, humiliation, mockery, and absolutely worse for a siren… silence.
At least I was able to make a friend of a local guardsman named Lucas. He became a measure of kindness during the uncertainty. I was with Lucas when the voices filled the land and our minds from the sages saying we could walk through a door into other planes for a short period only. That was beyond tempting. Here I was after being falsely accused of murdering a captive, after being hated on for months by members of our own community, after being betrayed by strangers and “friends” alike. I’d be lying to say I didn’t want to walk through that door…
Finally, the inquisition was over, I was found not guilty, and encouraged to continue my work in the military.
I bid Lucas “farewell for now” and started the trip to Meadowmere. I don’t know how I’ll feel to step back into the ranks of the town guard there… I don’t know what the town will feel like… if home is still… home. I do have a new venture with Jack and Larken, we’ve been writing back and forth about, we’re opening The Siren’s Song tavern. It will be good to be back in the tavern atmosphere I so loved when working at Molly Mavis’s, that does still feel like home to me.
I miss people… I think… it will be… good… to see them.
Won’t it?
