Somewhere in a cavern Northwest of the Old Royce Outpost…

“My love,

I got your message that our food stockpile was starting to run short. I went over to the abandoned outpost again to see if I could find any more of the leftover food stores.

I arrived there only to find out that the old fort has been settled by a small group of people, beastfolk, dwarves, and other creatures. They seem to have cleared out those annoying kobalds that kept trying to get to your stews and potions.

I asked around and got to know some of the people there. Oh and by the Red Eye, I found a couple of old friends from Meadowmere. Verrick and Z were there. I caught up with them briefly before another visitor came into the fort.

A birdfolk of some sort wandered nearby and was being attacked by some undead. I know what you’re going to say and no I didn’t go looking for the fight; a Royce guard drafted me. I assisted with the injured and when we returned I saw that bird cure an undead completely! I also saw it raise another person back to life!

This is it Hilde!!! I have found a possible source of information or power so that I can once again bring life and healing to others in Rehn’s name. I have been patiently waiting for his word to come to me again since we arrived and this is it.

Being separated from the two most important things in my life is so painful. No word from Rehn and not being able to talk to you or hear your voice is nearly unbearable. But if I can regain the power and magic I once had, perhaps I can break this curse and we can be together again.

The bird (Kiran was its name), couldn’t share how it could resurrect or heal. Its only concern was to run from a hunter that was chasing it. I found out who this hunter was when we were told to go out and drive off some kobalds in the wood nearby.

We ran across several chests that were magically trapped. While we were clearing out these chests, it was then that I heard the throat singing. There’s only one person we know that can make that frightening sound. We grabbed the last chest and I told everyone to get out of there right away!

Knowing that Phelix was near, and the type of traps that that he would place, I volunteered to open the last chest. There was an explosion and my left arm was gone! However they took me back to the outpost and the bird somehow healed it and regrew the arm!

Hilde, through some reasoning and discussion with the small group there and Kiran, it was decided that we would escort the bird to Whisper Ridge. Yes there is one here as well apparently. The hope is that because the veil is the thinnest there, Kiran can escape to a different world and draw Phelix with it.

I plan to spend the next few weeks following and observing Kiran. Hopefully I can pick up some sort of skill or knowledge that will aid me in regaining some of my power. Please make use of the food in the crates next to this letter and stay in the cave for your own safety. I will try and sleep a bit to give you a chance to get some of your things done.

I love you and miss you my dear and look forward to the next letter that you leave me when I wake up in the cave next time.

Yours by the Red Eye of Rehn,
Imend Beaudelaire”
